Love Zero
the reissued first full-length from The
Prids
[BUY]
The Prids began in Nebraska in 1998 and around early
2000 they re-located to Portland, Oregon. During that time they self-produced
and released Glide, Screamer which layed the groundwork for The Prids'
modern new wave sound. With Love Zero, The Prids proudly defy
categories.
From somewhere in the layered refractions of dual harmonies, the sounds
glide from the sultry echoes of reminiscence and regret to the hysteria
of realized abuse. Love Zero is a distinct mix of potent basslines,
driving and emotive guitar work, groove-inflicting rhythms and percussion,
and deftly layered synthesizers. The songs combine kraut-rock intelligence,
synth-pop accessibility and the immediacy of punk rock, and then move
on to gut-level experimentalism – razing all points in between.
"Imagine if My Bloody Valentine and New Order decided to collaborate
when they were both at their peaks. They'd make magenta-charged electro-wave,
a crashing of static guitars with a heavily delicate synthesizer melody
and unexpected drum smatters. The vocals would be iridescent, with breathy
distortion. Imagine the electricity in that dark tension."
– The Portland Mercury
